about Milton Keynes - my home

I have lived in Milton Keynes for over 32 years now and have seen many changes take place. It has something for everybody. Back in the early 70's Milton Keynes was just a huge building site with mud everywhere. How things have changed since then. The roads are designed on a grid system with H roads (horizontal) and V roads (vertical) which theoretically mean that you should never be able to get lost in Milton Keynes. The nickname for the city is "The city of trees" because everywhere you look there is trees. In some areas you could be forgiven for thinking that you are in the middle of a forest!

The planners have certainly done a remarkable job in balancing the town and country environment together. Central Milton Keynes is the heart of the city with its state of the art ultra modern shopping centre where you could literally shop till you drop. There is also an entertainment area called Xscape which houses Europe's largest indoor real snow ski slope. There is also an indoor rock climbing area, a16 screen cinema multiplex, and a family entertainment centre.

Yet with all this activity going on, less than 10 minutes away by car from Central Milton Keynes you can find yourself next to one of our large lakes and be enjoying the peace and tranquility. Willen Lake is quite unique in as much as it caters for both water sport fans and nature lovers alike. The south lake is used for water skiing and windsurfing and the north lake is a haven for bird spotters because of the large island in the middle of the lake which attracts some very unusual birds.

Over on the far side of the north lake is the beautiful peace pagoda which was the first to be built in the western hemisphere and enshrines the sacred relics of Lord Buddha. The monks and nuns will give you a warm welcome to their temple nearby with its ornate Japanese garden.
I feel very privileged to be living in Milton Keynes.
